Veterinary Emergencies
Some examples of situations that require immediate care include:
- Bleeding that is severe or ongoing
- Bleeding from the nose, mouth, rectum, or blood in urine
- Seizures or staggering
- Ingestion of a poisonous substance (such as antifreeze, xylitol, chocolate, rodent poison, etc.)
- Bouts of vomiting or diarrhea (2+ episodes in 24 hours)
- Signs of pain or extreme anxiety
- Choking, difficulty breathing, or continuous coughing/gagging
- Unconsciousness
- Difficulty, inability, or pain in urination or passing feces
- Injury to the eye(s)
- Broken or fractured bones or severe lameness
- Heatstroke or heat stress
- Refusing to drink for 24 hours or more
